Feed and feeding

How do I find the feed that performs best in my system?

Three details decide: species, fish weight and water temperature. They determine the feed line, pellet size and energy content. The feeding rate is in the table on the product sheet. Send us your farm data and we will calculate the plan for your system.

How can I tell whether my fish are really growing as they should?

Weigh a sample from each tank every 2–4 weeks. The specific growth rate SGR = (ln final weight − ln start weight) × 100 ÷ days shows the growth per day. The TGC makes periods with different temperatures comparable.

How do I check whether the feed's FCR is right?

FCR = kg feed ÷ kg weight gain, for the same period and the same tank. Record the amount actually fed (calibrate your feeders), subtract uneaten feed and include losses in the biomass. Compare the result with the achievable FCR on the product sheet: it applies under optimal conditions.

Which water parameters affect growth the most?

Temperature first: fish grow fastest at the optimum for their species. Then oxygen: it falls as the water gets warmer, and feed intake falls with it. Add to that CO₂, ammonia, nitrite and a stable pH.

How does the feed affect these water parameters?

Whatever the fish does not use ends up in the water: nitrogen from protein as ammonia, phosphorus as nutrient load, leftovers as oxygen demand in the biofilter. Digestible feed with the right protein-to-energy ratio and a ration with no leftovers take the load off the system. What counts most is that no feed is left uneaten.

What do I do if oxygen falls or the temperature is above the optimum?

Increase the oxygen supply shortly before each feeding, by as much as the feeding will use on top. That way your fish have enough oxygen during the meal and afterwards. Read the optimum temperature for your feed from its feeding table: it is where the feeding rate is highest.

How do I change pellet size or feed without losing growth?

Where the weight classes overlap, mix the old and new pellet size for 3–5 days. A change of feed is best planned with us: the feeding plan shows which feed comes in when.

Is there a minimum quantity?

You can get our standard feeds in small quantities too. Feeds marked ● are produced to order, from 3 t per pellet size. We make your own recipes from a first order of 2–4 t, depending on the feed type.

What does the feed cost?

Prices are in the current price list, as a price per 100 kg. There are three price tiers by quantity per product: from 3 t, 0.75 t to under 3 t and under 0.75 t. The more you order, the lower the price per 100 kg. On request, we will send you the price list by email.
